Why Take My Tack?

Part 1

Right, so around the time of the pandemic, we saw the emergence of horse lovers, such as yourselves, buying and selling horse tack on social media. There were many challenges with selling on social media. The endless scrolling to try and find something you would like, the unavoidable “is this still available” and the scammers that never shipped the item.

So we launched Take My Tack as a website in 2021. It was the first of its kind, a marketplace website for horse riders and horse owners to buy and sell new or second-hand horse tack. It was safe to use, where every seller registered first and pay-outs were only created once the buyer receive their item and it was easy to use, where horse tack enthusiasts could find what they needed by clicking the well organised categories.

Part 2

The response was amazing. However, there was a flaw. Despite working so well on the desktop, it looked terrible on the mobile. It wasn’t intuitive at all, users were getting stuck in places, finding it hard to upload their new or second-hand horse tack and you couldn’t upload pictures from your phone.

The analytics showed us that users preferred using their mobile phone and rarely sat down at their computer to register and sell their horse tack. The ones that did register and use the website on their computer, thoroughly enjoyed the safe & secure platform to sell their stuff, so it was back to the drawing board to see how we can improve things for everyone.

Part 3

We began work on turning the website into a fully functioning mobile app for iOS and Android. Custom made in every place, using what we had learnt from the launch of the the website. Having been in the Equestrian industry since 2013, we knew what kind of app customers would want. We split it up in three phases, with phase one introducing the app in its first iteration.

It took just over a year and by the end of 2023 – we were ready to launch. We hit that button and the mobile app went live! We started our marketing campaign and the response was

Like most things in business, there were some challenges. Lessons were learnt, mistakes were made, late night pizza sessions were had and through perseverance we finally launched; it was a cold night in winter 2023, the publish button was hit and the app launched itself into the digital space.

We awaited the confirmation notifications like Swifties waiting for the new ‘Taylor’s Version’ and as the Christmas lights flickered, there came the pings, one after the next – the success emails that told us: our app was live! We hope you are just as excited as we are!
